In history dogs were always known to be multi tasked species, it is known in the past that dogs were used for many purposes as was seen fit at the time. They were commonly used as hunters, protector and in War, providing the world with many benefits which helped the human species to enhance. Throughout the ages dogs began to be categorically known for what skills they possessed and were bred for. Guarding was a category which the Boerboel was placed in. It showed tremendous ability to defend and its overall impression of strength and agility is what made the breed so highly regarded as one of the best purpose build dogs a person could own. It is in the nature of a dog to be loyal and please their owners. Guard dogs of today are many; the most prominent ones are the Rottweiler, Doberman German Shepard and the Bull Mastiff. These breeds have abilities and a history that proves it to be in this category. Some people would say that a guard dog can be judged upon the extent the dog exserts itself; other would base the judgment upon the ability to be aggressive towards an intruder. The Boerboel is native to South African and it is said to be the only breed of dog solely and exclusively bred to defend the homestead. The origin of the breed can be dated back to 1652 in which a man by the name of Jan van Riebeeck started the process of coming up with the beorbeol. Settlers in Living in such hard condition could be the reason where the beorboel derived its dominance. Overall the Boerboel is a big bones dog which is intelligent and has a strong watch dog instinct, its ability to sense the difference between a stranger and a friend is a rare thing which many dogs do not possess. The Boerbeol is extremely loyal to its family and will most definitely stand in the way of anything which is a threat. The appearance of the breed speaks for itself, the massive head and paws with an athletic Mastiff body, it poses as either a mighty enemy or a dear friend. Today’s Boerboels are not exactly like their ancestors but most characteristics are still present in the breed and every individual dog will posses certain traits which other boerboel may not have. The environment and upbringing plays a big part in the development of the dog. I think its fair to say the Boerboel has the behaviour of a lion when the situation arises showing enormous strength and fearlessness but at the same time has the temperament of a small child when with family. A PERFECT BALANCE T-Bone 8 month
The issue is not necessarily what the breed can do, because a pit bull can cause extensive damage to humans and animals but its how the breed goes about their job to protect the family and property. Is your dog going to, as soon as they sense a noise or children playing in the street act aggressively and bark? Or will the dog differentiate between foe and friend. In this regards the boerboel proves itself supreme
